Civil servants in Cross River State have initiated a two-day warning strike, following the government's failure to implement the new minimum wage law, which mandates a salary increase to N70,000. The strike was organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) after prolonged delays in fulfilling the wage agreement. Workers, especially from government offices such as the State Secretariat Complex and the State High Court, found their workspaces locked with security personnel on guard to prevent disruptions.

Governor Bassey Otu has appealed for the strike to be called off, citing his administration’s commitment to worker welfare. However, the labor unions remain firm, expressing their frustration with the delay tactics and emphasizing that most states have already started implementing the new wage. If the Cross River government does not act before December 1, the warning strike could escalate into an indefinite industrial action.
